How Immune Competence Started
Sitting in the Detroit airport one evening, Colin was eating dinner while waiting for his flight home. Frustrated, he scrolled through social media and saw the same questions being asked again and again by others living with Primary Immunodeficiency (PI). The amount of misinformation and the aggressive, unhelpful replies were nothing new. No matter how many times he tried to answer or share his experience, it never seemed to make a difference. The community needed practical, day-to-day information about what it’s really like to live with a chronic illness, and no one seemed to be filling that gap.
At that moment, he noticed Lisa was online and decided to vent. She completely agreed. What started as a quick chat turned into weeks of brainstorming and eventually, the idea for Immune Competence was born.
The vision was simple: even someone living with a Primary Immunodeficiency can live a full, meaningful life — with the right information and support. Together, Lisa and Colin set out to create a space that empowers the PI community with trustworthy resources, honest conversations, and shared experiences.
Our goal is to amplify diverse voices, provide practical insights, and help fill in the missing pieces of everyday life with PI.
